Cardiff then Bilbao: two Champions Cups in a row

The Union Bordeaux-Bègles was formed in 2006 from the merger of Stade Bordelais, a prominent club from the early days of the championship, and CA Bègles-Bordeaux, champion of France in 1969 and 1991. After a long search for their first major trophy, the UBB took the leap on May 24, 2025, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, beating Northampton 28-20 in front of over seventy thousand spectators. A year later, on May 23, 2026, they retained their Champions Cup in Bilbao, at the San Mamés stadium, dominating Leinster 41-19 after scoring five tries before half-time. International players like Matthieu Jalibert and Louis Bielle-Biarrey have showcased this attacking style of play.

Chaban-Delmas, the first covered stadium without pillars

The UBB plays at the Chaban-Delmas stadium, the former Parc Lescure, inaugurated in 1938. Architects Raoul Jourde and Jacques d'Welles utilized all the resources of reinforced concrete: their double cantilever stands are covered with thin arches, without any pillars to obstruct the view, a world first for a fully covered stadium. The venue has been listed as a historic monument since October 2022. It has hosted UBB matches since 2011, and on evenings of major games, the Bordeaux crowd make it one of the league's most sought-after events, propelled by songs echoing from the art deco stands.

Home or away: choose your UBB Kappa jersey

Kappa, already a partner of the club from 2013 to 2018, is once again outfitting the UBB and has designed its home and away jerseys. The home one, in Bordeaux tones, the club's emblematic colour, is the one for big nights at Chaban-Delmas; the second one, with a distinct design, is used for away games to avoid confusion with the opponent. The Italian supplier works with tailored fits, close to those of the players: if you're used to a loose fit, opt for a size up. For a gift, the person's usual size is the best reference, and a slightly larger jersey is usually more comfortable than one that is too tight.

Frequently asked questions

What does the acronym UBB stand for?

UBB stands for Union Bordeaux-Bègles. The name recalls the merger of 2006 between Stade Bordelais and CA Bègles-Bordeaux, two neighbouring clubs that joined forces to promote an ambitious professional project in the area.

Has UBB ever been French champion?

Not under its current name: UBB reached the Top 14 final in 2024 and 2025, losing each time to Stade Toulousain. CA Bègles-Bordeaux, one of its two founding clubs, however lifted the Shield in 1969 and 1991.

How many seats does Chaban-Delmas stadium have?

About thirty-four thousand seven hundred. Regularly filled for UBB matches, it is among the most visited venues in the league, and its pillar-free stands offer an unobstructed view from all covered seats.

What is the colour of the UBB jersey?

Bordeaux is the club's emblematic colour, often accented with touches of white or pink, depending on the versions. The away jerseys explore other shades to distinguish themselves from the opponent during away games.

How to care for a Bordeaux jersey when washing?

Wash it inside out, at thirty degrees, with dark colours, as dark shades can bleed during the first washes. Avoid fabric softener and tumble dryers, which damage the technical fibres and logos.
