1997: the European crown in Cardiff
The CA Brive was founded on 15 March 1910. Its greatest day came on 25 January 1997 at Cardiff Arms Park: in the European Cup final, the team from Corrèze triumphed over Leicester 28 to 9, a clear victory that made them the second French club champion of Europe. The following year, they reached the final again in Bordeaux but lost by a point to Bath, 19 to 18. Brive therefore remains the only club to have won the European Cup without ever being champion of France, a uniqueness of which Corrèze takes great pride.

Amédée-Domenech, the lair of the Duke
Brive plays at the Amédée-Domenech stadium, in the heart of the city. It is named after an international prop from the fifties and sixties, a club figure known as the Duke. On match nights, a good part of Corrèze converges towards this stadium in black and white, in a popular atmosphere where people know each other from one stand to another. The club's training centre has seen many internationals emerge, helping to maintain the pride of a rugby town.
The finals of the championship that slipped away
While Europe smiled upon them, the French championship has remained out of reach for CA Brive. The club reached the final in 1965, in 1972, in 1975, and then in 1996, losing each time, sometimes by a narrow margin. These failures have built a reputation as a fighting club, capable of competing with the very best without ever giving up. They also give even more significance to the European title of 1997, won just a few months after the lost final of 1996. Relegated to Pro D2 in 2023, Brive has been aiming for a return to the top tier since then.
