1954: the Shield of the Foreign Legion
The FC Grenoble lifted the Brennus Shield in 1954, with a team nicknamed the Foreign Legion, which included the Italian Sergio Lanfranchi. The club also made a name for itself on the continental stage: finalist in the European Champion Clubs Cup organised by FIRA in 1963, it won the Challenge Yves du Manoir in 1987, a prestigious competition held alongside the championship. Long a pillar of the elite, the FCG then experienced ups and downs between the first and second divisions.

The Mammoths of Fouroux and the 1993 final
In the early nineties, former France XV coach Jacques Fouroux built a pack of rare power in Grenoble, quickly nicknamed the Mammoths, including Olivier Merle, Olivier Brouzet, and Grzegorz Kacała. In 1993, the Isérois reached the final against Castres and lost 14 to 11, deprived of a try by Brouzet and penalized by a wrongly awarded opposing try. The referee acknowledged his mistake thirteen years later; in Grenoble, this final remains a wound that former players still recall.
