First champion of France in 1892

The Racing 92 comes from the Racing Club de France, founded in 1882, which won the very first French championship in 1892 against Stade Français, refereed by Pierre de Coubertin. The club added titles in 1900, 1902, 1959 and 1990; this final against Agen is famous for the pink bow tie worn by the backs of the Showbiz team. In 2016, they beat Toulon at the Camp Nou in Barcelona in front of 99,124 spectators, then a world record for a club match. Stars like Dan Carter have worn the sky blue and white jersey.

From Colombes to the Paris La Défense Arena

For decades, the club played at the Yves-du-Manoir stadium in Colombes, venue of the 1924 Olympic Games, which it left only in November 2017. It then moved to the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, a modular indoor hall where rugby is played on synthetic grass, away from rain and wind, which promotes a fast flowing game. The sky and white, historical colours of the Racing Club de France, can be seen on the supporters' balls from Hauts-de-Seine, loyal to the heritage of a club founded in the nineteenth century.

A sky blue and white ball for every age

The Racing 92 ball is chosen first according to the person who will use it. An adult or a teenager over fifteen will take a size five, the format for senior matches; a player aged ten to fourteen will be more comfortable with a size four, and a child under ten with a size three, which is easier to handle. The mini ball, which fits in one hand, is popular among collectors and young children. Unlike players in the Arena, a ball used outside is affected by rain: a sponge wipe after every outing on wet grass and drying away from the radiator will keep it safe.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Racing 92 have this number?

The number refers to Hauts-de-Seine, the department where the club is based and which supports it. The name Racing 92, adopted in 2015, replaced Racing Métro 92, while maintaining the link with the original Racing Club de France.

Who is Dan Carter, who played for Racing 92?

A New Zealand fly-half, double world champion with the All Blacks in 2011 and 2015, he joined the club in the Paris region after the 2015 World Cup. He contributed from his first year to the French championship title won at the Camp Nou.

Can a Racing 92 ball be used on synthetic grass?

Yes, for leisure games, but synthetic surfaces wear out the outer layer and prints faster than natural grass. It should be wiped after use to remove rubber granules that get stuck in the seams.

Is there a mini ball for Racing 92?

Mini balls in size one often feature the colours of the Top 14 clubs, and the Racing one appears here when available. It fits in a pocket on match day and can be signed at the end of training sessions.

How to display a signed Racing ball?

It can be placed on a stand or under a clear dome, away from direct light which fades the signatures. A slightly deflated ball puts less strain on its seams and retains its shape for years.
