Titles from 1949 to the surprise of 2018

The Castres Olympique takes its name from 1906, extending a club created in 1898 by former students of the local college. It won its first titles of champion of France in 1949 and 1950, then reached the top again in 1993 by beating Grenoble, in a final remembered for a disputed try. The two following victories surprised the entire league: in 2013 against Toulon, freshly crowned champion of Europe, and then in 2018 against Montpellier, which had finished the regular season at the top of the standings.

Pierre-Fabre, a stadium in the heart of Tarn

The club plays at the Pierre-Fabre stadium, formerly known as Pierre-Antoine stadium, renamed in 2017 in honour of the pharmaceutical industrialist who supported the club from 1988 until its closure in 2013. This support from a group based in Castres explains how a city of around forty thousand inhabitants can stand up to larger metropolitan areas. The venue, compact and close to the pitch, is renowned for its atmosphere. The blue and white colours of the club adorn the supporters' balls, often given to the young licensees of Tarn.

Play, gift or display: the right format

A club ball in size five is intended for teenagers from the age of fifteen and adults, size four for players aged ten to fourteen, and size three for younger ones. For a supporter gift that won't be used in play, the mini ball in size one, which fits in the palm, or the midi ball in size two, can sit on a desk without taking up much space. Before playing, check the pressure indicated near the valve, and avoid leaving the ball in a car in the sun, where the heat expands the air and deforms the casing.

Frequently asked questions

What are the colours of Castres Olympique?

The blue and white, worn by the Tarn club since its beginnings. The balls in the CO colours feature these two shades and the club crest, making it an easily recognizable item in a supporter’s room or office.

Is there a mini ball for Castres Olympique?

The mini balls in size one regularly reflect the colours of elite clubs, and the CO version is offered here when available. It can be collected, easily signed, and accompanies young supporters to the stadium.

Why is the 1993 final against Grenoble so notable?

Castres won on a try awarded when a Grenoble player had grounded the ball first in his in-goal. Thirteen years later, referee Daniel Salles acknowledged his mistake, and this match still fuels the memory of both clubs.

How to inflate a ball that has been stored for a long time?

Moisten the needle, insert it gently into the valve, and inflate in small steps until reaching the recommended pressure. If the ball deflates in a few days, the bladder or valve is worn out, and it's best to reserve it for decoration.

Is a CO ball suitable for a child in rugby school?

Yes, if it fits the size of their hands: size three before age ten, then size four. It will be used for passes in the garden and games with friends, while the club provides training balls for practice sessions.
