Canterbury unveiled the Phoenix Genesis in July 2022, presenting it as their lightest and most durable all-purpose rugby shoe. It was developed with Justin Tipuric, a back row player for Wales and the British and Irish Lions, and then tested at all levels of play. Its aim was clear: to provide rugby players with an alternative to shoes designed for other sports, which many wear due to the lack of a suitable model. Flightbeam and bio-sourced sole

The Elite version is based on Flightbeam technology: a sole structure inspired by a bird's fork, which returns energy with each step to make starts more explosive. This sole is largely bio-sourced, made from Pebax Rnew, a material derived from castor oil. The Pro FG version combines high-quality leather at the front of the foot for ball feel, and a reinforced TPU mesh at midfoot, which is softer and more breathable. A wrap-around neoprene tongue and a microfiber lining complete the fit.

Elite, Pro or Team: which Phoenix Genesis to choose

The Elite brings together all the innovations of the range and is aimed at high-level players. The Pro inherits the fork-shaped stability structure, which supports the midfoot during direction changes, with padding distributed by zones. The Team, simpler, targets club players looking for a balance between speed, stability, and durability. Each version is available in screw-in studs for soft pitches or FG molded studs for firm ground. Back row and centre players are its natural users.
