RC Toulon offers its home jersey, its authentic version, its pre-match jersey, hoodie and tracksuit jacket. Racing 92 in sky blue and white, Stade Rochelais in yellow and black, the Union Bordeaux-Bègles and Stade Français complete a selection covering the main fixtures of the championship.

Bouclier de Brennus and championship finals

The French champion receives the Bouclier de Brennus, designed by engraver Charles Brennus and awarded for the first time in 1892 to Racing Club de France, who beat Stade Français in a final refereed by Pierre de Coubertin. The elite championship took the name of Top 14 in 2005. After twenty-six matchdays, the top six compete in the finals: from third to sixth place, clubs face off in play-offs, the two top teams wait in the semi-finals, and the final is most often held at the Stade de France. The fourteenth place team is relegated to Pro D2, while the thirteenth defends its place in a promotion match.

Size and fit of French clubs' jerseys

Each Top 14 club works with its equipment supplier, and the fits differ from one brand to another: before choosing, one should compare their chest measurement to the manufacturer's size chart instead of relying on their usual size. The authentic versions, designed for players, fit closely to the chest and biceps; the supporter version is worn more loosely, even over a warm undergarment on winter evenings. For training pants, it is also important to check the leg length, which is often tapered at the calf. Lastly, a jersey featuring a player's name should be washed inside out and never put in the tumble dryer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which club has won the most Boucliers de Brennus?

Stade Toulousain, by a long way, ahead of Stade Français and AS Béziers, who dominated the early twentieth century and the 1970s respectively. Toulouse also holds the record for titles in the European Cup.

When does the Top 14 start?

The championship generally starts in late August or early September and ends in June with the final. It continues during the Six Nations Tournament and the November tests, meaning that clubs then play without their international players.

What is a JIFF player?

A player from training pathways, registered for at least five seasons with the federation before turning twenty-three or who spent three seasons in a training centre before turning twenty-one. Clubs must include at least one minimum on their match sheets.

Why does Racing 92 play in an indoor stadium?

Since 2017, the club has played at the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, a covered venue with synthetic turf that also hosts concerts. The roof protects players and spectators from rain and the cold of the Parisian winter.

What is the largest stadium in the Top 14?

The Chaban-Delmas stadium of the Union Bordeaux-Bègles, which has over thirty thousand seats, is among the largest. Several clubs also relocate their big matches to the Vélodrome in Marseille or the Allianz Riviera in Nice.
