Jako, a brand born between the Jagst and the Kocher

The story of Jako begins on 1st November 1989 in a garage in Stachenhausen, in Baden-Württemberg. Rudi Sprügel, then an employee at a sports store, noticed that the big brands were delivering club kits late and with little follow-up; his first goal was to dress all the teams in the area between two rivers, the Jagst and the Kocher, whose first letters form the name of the brand. Based in Mulfingen-Hollenbach, the company has remained family-owned: the founder’s daughters, Nadine and Yvonne Sprügel, now run it in the second generation. Service to clubs, with quick turnaround times, remains at the heart of its model.

A club polo designed to dry quickly

The Jako polo is primarily a piece of teamwear: it outfits coaches, managers, and players during trips, in addition to game kits. Several models are made from a polyester treated using KEEPDRY technology, which transports moisture away from the skin to the outside of the fabric, where it evaporates quickly: the polo stays dry on the sidelines in full sun and doesn’t weigh much after a downpour. These polos come in a wide range of solid colours, easy to match with a club's colours, and are suitable for embroidery of a badge or printing of initials.

Adult and child sizes: how to order a Jako polo properly

The best way is to measure your chest size and compare it to the Jako size guide, without relying on labels from other brands. Children’s polos should be chosen according to height in centimetres, which is a more reliable reference than age, with a margin for growth if the polo is to be used for two years. The regular fit provides ease at the shoulders without being baggy. For care, the technical fabric washes at 30 degrees, without fabric softener, which clogs the fibres and slows down moisture wicking, then dries hanging in a few hours: a great feature for a polo worn every weekend.

Frequently asked questions

Is Jako a German brand?

Yes, it was founded in 1989 in Baden-Württemberg and is headquartered in Mulfingen-Hollenbach. The company has remained family-owned and is still owned by the Sprügel family.

Does Jako fit large or small?

The club polos from the brand generally have a regular fit, neither loose nor tight: its usual size often fits best. Between two sizes, the larger one gives extra room in the shoulders and chest.

What does the name Jako mean?

It combines the first letters of the names of two rivers in northern Baden-Württemberg, the Jagst and the Kocher. The founder initially wanted to equip all the clubs located between these two waterways.

Is a polyester polo suitable for summer?

Yes, a lightweight technical mesh wicks away sweat and dries quickly, making it comfortable in high heat. It does, however, tend to retain odours more easily than cotton: washing after each wear is essential.

Can an entire team be outfitted in Jako polos?

That’s the brand's purpose, created to serve clubs: the same polos are available in children's and adult sizes and in various colours. A club can thus dress its coaches, managers, and young players in identical pieces.
