Our children's shoes adidas page features, when available, the studded shoes from the three stripes brand for young rugby players: moulded stud models for rugby school and more stable shoes for young forwards, along with the history of adidas in rugby and our advice on insoles and sizes.
The three stripes, right from rugby school.
Founded in 1949 in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, by Adolf Dassler, whose nickname Adi gave its name to the brand, adidas has built its reputation on sports shoes and its three stripes, which were originally used to reinforce the upper. In rugby, it has dressed the All Blacks continuously since 1999 and has reunited with the France XV in September 2024, after outfitting them from 1992 to 1998 and then from 2012 to 2019. Its rugby range for adults includes specialized shoes, like the Kakari designed for forwards, which serve as a reference when fitting a young player.

All kids' shoes are gathered on the kids' shoes page.
The letters on the sole indicate the intended ground. FG, for firm ground, refers to moulded studs for dry to slightly wet natural grass; SG, for soft ground, refers to screw-in studs designed for muddy pitches; AG, for artificial grass, refers to shorter studs suitable for synthetic surfaces; TF, finally, is a sole with small studs for hard surfaces and training. For a child playing on grass and occasionally training on synthetic, a versatile moulded sole remains the simplest choice, without needing a key or screws to adjust.
adidas lists its kids' sizes according to the British grid: the smallest sizes are marked with the letter K, for kids, up to 13.5K, then the numbering restarts at 1 and gradually joins the adult grid. The conversion to European sizes is shown on the label of the tongue. To avoid mistakes, measure the length of the child's foot in centimetres and refer to the size guide of the brand. The recommended margin, about one centimetre in front of the big toe, allows the foot to grow without compromising support during pushes and changes of direction.

Originally, the three stripes sewn on the side of the shoe reinforced the upper and kept the foot in place. Adolf Dassler made it the visual signature of his brand, recognizable from afar on the fields as well as on jerseys.
At this age, a lightweight shoe with moulded studs is generally more suitable than an adult rugby model with screw-in studs. Specialized rugby shoes make sense around adolescence, when contact and scrumming intensify.
The letter J, for junior, indicates a shoe designed on a kids' last. It follows the design of the adult version of the same model, in sizes and fit tailored for a growing foot.
They generally fit true to size, with a wider or narrower toe box depending on the models. The safest method is to compare the length of the foot measured in centimetres to the brand's guide rather than rely on another pair.
Start by tightening from the bottom, pulling each section tight, and finish with a double knot to prevent it from coming undone during play. The foot should be held without pressure, with the heel snugly at the back of the shoe.
