From Super 12 to Super Rugby Pacific

Super Rugby was born in 1996, on the heels of the shift to professionalism, under the name of Super 12: twelve teams from New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. It expanded over the years, then refocused on Oceania after the South African franchises moved to European leagues. It became Super Rugby Pacific in 2022, bringing together New Zealand and Australian teams as well as the Fijian Drua from Fiji, in a championship known for its fast play and high scores.

Crusaders, Blues, Chiefs: the Franchise Colours

The Crusaders from Christchurch, the most successful franchise, play in red and black. The Blues from Auckland wear blue, the Hurricanes from Wellington yellow and black, the Chiefs from Hamilton red, yellow, and black, and the Highlanders from Dunedin blue, gold, and burgundy. On the Australian side, the Waratahs from Sydney showcase the sky blue of New South Wales, the Reds from Queensland wear red, and the Brumbies from Canberra sport navy blue, accentuated with white and gold.

Southern Hemisphere Cups: Choosing Your Size

The jerseys from the franchises often come in tailored fits, close to those worn on the pitch, even in supporter versions. For everyday use, going one size up from your usual provides more room in the shoulders and around the chest. The Australian and New Zealand sizes follow the same scale, from S to XXL, but each manufacturer has its own measurements: the chest width of a well-worn jersey is the best point of comparison. Wearing a franchise jersey also means supporting future All Blacks and Wallabies, who are honing their skills there.
