1991 and 1999: the two World Cup victories of the Wallabies

Australia won the World Cup in 1991 at Twickenham against England, 12 to 6, and then in 1999 in Cardiff against France, 35 to 12. However, its history is much older: during the 1908 tour to Great Britain, the players rejected the nickname Rabbits and adopted the one of Wallabies, then won the gold medal at the rugby Olympic tournament in London the same year. Generations of players, from David Campese to John Eales, have since built a reputation for inventive attacking rugby.

The 2027 World Cup, returning to Australia

Australia will host the 2027 World Cup from 1st October to 13th November, the first with twenty-four teams. The country previously hosted the competition in 1987, with New Zealand, and then solely in 2003, an edition concluded with a final lost in Sydney against England, in extra time. Rugby union shares the stage with rugby league there, which is very popular in New South Wales and Queensland; franchises from Super Rugby, like the Sydney Waratahs or the Canberra Brumbies, are shaping the future Wallabies.

Scarf and flag: the green and gold of Australian supporters

The green and gold officially became the national sporting colours of Australia in 1984, and the Wallabies play in gold jerseys. The s scarf features these two colours and is worn at the stadium, around the neck or waved in the stands. The flag of Australia, with its Union Jack and the Southern Cross on a blue background, is hung from a balcony or displayed for a match night with friends. These two accessories, regardless of size, make simple gifts for a Wallabies supporter.
