The Other Nations selection brings together rugby teams that are outside of the Tournament and the Rugby Championship: Japan's Brave Blossoms, the Tonga and Samoa from the Pacific, the Lobos from Portugal, Los Leones from Spain and the Euskarians from the Basque Country, as well as balls in the colours of Canada and Uruguay. The World Cup has written the legend of these teams. In 1991, Samoa defeated Wales 16 to 13 in Cardiff; in 2011, Tonga dominated France 19 to 14 in Wellington; in 2015, Japan overturned South Africa 34 to 32 in Brighton, before reaching its first quarter-final at home in 2019. The balls in the colours of Canada and Uruguay highlight two nations from the Americas. Known as Los Teros, after a bird from the Uruguayan plains, Uruguay has qualified for most recent World Cups and defeated Fiji 30 to 27 in 2019 in Kamaishi. Canada, a quarter-finalist in 1991, relies heavily on its women's team, a finalist in the World Cup in 2014 and 2025. These supporter balls are great for passing between friends or decorating a shelf of an international rugby enthusiast.
Each nation on this page has its own rugby culture. Japan leans on the Japan Rugby League One, a professional league launched in 2022 that attracts internationals from all over the world. In the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal and Spain meet in the Rugby Europe Championship, and the Euskarians, created in 1997, bring together Basque players from both sides of the Pyrenees.
