New Era, founded in 1920 in Buffalo, New York, refers to its caps using code names. The 9Forty combines a structured front, a pre-curved brim, and an adjustable strap at the back: it's the most versatile model, available here for women and children. The 9Twenty, unstructured, is softer and lighter, featuring a curved brim. The fitted model, launched in 1954, has no adjustment: it is chosen according to head size, with closely spaced sizes for a precise fit.

The trucker, with its mesh back and solid front, allows air circulation and is suitable for hot days; New Era and the brand 47 offer it here. A structured crown, reinforced at the front, maintains its tall and neat shape on the head. A non-structured crown, without reinforcement, hugs the head and slips more easily into a sac. How to reshape a crushed cap?
Lightly steam it or use warm water, then let it dry resting on a round support, like a ball or an upside-down bowl. The crown will then regain its shape.
Can you machine wash a cap?
It's better to avoid it: the machine can distort the brim and the structured crown. Hand washing in slightly soapy warm water with a soft brush preserves the shape and embroidery.
