French top clubs in children's sizes

The Toulouse Stadium, founded in 1907 and the most decorated club in France, offers home jerseys, away jerseys, training jerseys, and special editions. The Bordeaux-Bègles Union, born in 2006 from the merger of Stade Bordelais and CA Bègles-Bordeaux and crowned European champions in 2025 against Northampton, dresses children from head to toe, from jerseys to sweatshirts. The La Rochelle Stadium, European champion in 2022 and then again in 2023, Stade Français, RC Toulon, Racing 92, Castres and FC Grenoble complete the selection, each with its own colours and crest.

Home, away, third or fourth: understanding jerseys

A club has a home jersey in its historical colours, and an away jersey, used when the colours of the two teams are similar. The third jersey, the third option, serves as a backup or marks a special event: that of the Toulouse Stadium has the name of the Stadium, the place where the club hosts its biggest matches. The fourth, a rarer edition, often accompanies a specific match or cause, and quickly becomes a sought-after item. Additionally, the pre-match jersey and training jersey, which are more subdued, are often worn daily.

Children's size: height, age and growth margin

The children's sizing charts of equipment manufacturers are based on height: a size ten aims for about 140 centimetres, while a size fourteen is approximately 164 centimetres. The child is measured without shoes, standing against a wall, and the corresponding size is chosen rather than that of their age, as differences in size are common at the same age. For a match jersey, a size up leaves some margin; for a sweatshirt or jacket, the length of the sleeves is also checked. When washing, turn the garment inside out, select a cold wash cycle, and avoid using the tumble dryer, which can crack the prints.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have to wear your club's jersey to play at rugby school?

No, rugby school often provides a jersey in the club's colours for matches, and training is done in free attire. The official jersey of a major club is mainly worn in the stands, at home, or at school to show off its colours.

What is the Brennus Shield?

This is the trophy awarded to the champion of France rugby since 1892. It is named after the engraver Charles Brennus, who designed it, and takes the form of a copper shield on a wooden panel.

How to preserve a collector's jersey?

It should be washed as little as possible, inside out and in cold water, then hung on a wide hanger away from light, which can fade the colours. Avoid folding it where there is a print or an iron-on crest.

Which French club has won the most European titles?

The Toulouse Stadium is the most decorated club in the European Cup, having won it for the first time in 1996, during the very first edition. Toulon, La Rochelle, and the Bordeaux-Bègles Union have also secured their name on the honour roll.

How to buy a jersey for a child without knowing their size?

One can discreetly ask the parents about their height, or choose the size corresponding to their age, plus one size up. A slightly larger jersey can be worn comfortably and will accompany the child for longer.
